Extinguisher

Fire’s out,

blown silent by

a cold wind of indifference

and snuffed out by the weight

of those promises of tomorrow

that never came to fruition.

Wordless farewells that

steam cold from the leftover ashes,

painting the sort of departure

that stains a soul and kills the flames

from the top to the bottom.
